Not the best of photographs, but i have spotted this in a farm off Gill Lane, little Hoole near Preston. I am pretty sure that it is an ex Crosville vehicle and enquiries around Preston suggest it may be SSG662 [911OFM]. I have not had the chance to investigate further and this photo was taken from a bus cab as I was passing. Does anyone know if this is the likely identity of this vehicle. | Crosville undated | (1159) |

 | 10th Mar 2003 | Crosville from 1984 (249 images)
From 1984 I used to make regular visits to the Crosville operating area, even though living in Lancashire. I would arise early in the morning and drive by car to a suitable point and then travel by Crosville services to various locations using my NBC Staff Pass. Here are a few of the photos I took en route. I apologise for the quality of some, but I hope you enjoy them. I hope to put up to 200 on the site.

 | 25th Mar 2003 | Crosville hunting 21.10.83 - 30.11.83 (33 images)
Whilst searching for photos to place in my Crosville Album, I came across a notebook that tied in with the photos in this collection. It gave details of the exact services and vehicles travelled on between the two dates in the title. I thought I might share this with you. The quality of some of the photos are not too brilliant (a bit grainy), but I was only using a cheap camera at the time before I bought my Olympus OM10. To try to save space it is laid out in the following order -
dep/service/from/to/arr/operator/vehicle
Where no operator is shown this is, of course, Crosville

This journey I did by car, with length of stay in brackets, as follows
Garstang - Warrington (60) - Runcorn Beechwood (10) - Chester (80) - Chester Central Works (40) - Heswall (5) - West Kirkby (40) - Liverpool Edge Lane (5) - Garstang
This was a total of 165 miles
I hope you have found this information interesting. By the way, my notebook also shows which vehicles I "copped" on each day !

 | 25th Mar 2003 | Crosville undated (31 images)
This is a small collection of older Crosville photos that I have found. The dates, location and vehicle information for most of them are unknown, but where I have this info it has been noted below the photo. Perhaps some of you can help me fill in the details so I can add it to the relevant picture ? Thanks

Not all photos in this gallery are Crosville, but they are, nevertheless, interesting, showing local independent operators. These independents have been reloaded with the correct file names after a viewer informed me who the operators actually were. Thanks to JH for the original photos.

 | 18th Mar 2003 | South Cambria 14 July 1986 (25 images)
On 14 July 1986 I set off from home in Garstang, Lancashire to spend the day travelling around the South Cambria area on Crosville bus services. I got up very early and travelled by car through Wrexham, Corwen and Machynlleth to arrive in Aberystwyth in time to catch the Cardiff service. Here are a few photos that I took on that day. I returned via mid Wales calling at Llanidloes, Newtown and Oswestry. By the time I got home I was absolutely worn out (I am being polite there), but it was well worth it as it had been a day that I had been trying to do for several years. I hope you enjoy the photos

 | 7th Nov 2005 | The Crosville File (36 images)
A few weeks ago a friend of mine went into a second hand bookshop in Preston looking for some old maps. What he came across was totally unexpected. There were four loose-leaf files containing a vast amount of photos and fleet information for Scout, Standerwick, Bamber Bridge Motor Services, Preston Corporation, Ribble and Crosville. For Preston and Crosville there were also bus tickets in the respective files. All the fleet details had been hand written and, in respect of the Ribble group vehicles, information stating which this person had driven or worked on. This led us to believe that he may have been an employee of the Company. However, there was no name of the person that had built this collection anywhere throughout the folders. The photographs and tickets had been glued onto lined paper, which leads us to believe that they are all bought and not taken by this person. None show any details of who took the photos or when they were taken. I have scanned all the photos and now have them on disc. I will put a few on my site so that you can view them and, perhaps, shed some light on this mysterious person. By doing this, I hope that I am not breaking any copyright rules because, as mentioned earlier, the photos have no names of the photographers placed on them (front or back). They will be put on my site as The ………. File (with the corresponding operator filling the gap). There are 9 Bamber Bridge, 36 Crosville, 53 Preston, 40 Scout, 22 Standerwick and about 130 Ribble (I have not yet finished editing them yet) photos. Your comments would be welcome!!
Here are a few Crosville samples
10 November - this now completes the downloading of the photos that were in the above mentioned file

| Here are a few Crosville photos taken over the past 30 years. There is a fair mixture, I think, colour / black & white, good quality and some not so good. However, I am sure most will be of interest and I hope you enjoy viewing them. It's possible I will find a few more yet, but it is, at this time, now complete (26.03.03). All I have to do now is put the relevant info below each photo !! |
