What he came across was totally unexpected. There were four loose-leaf files containing a vast amount of photos and fleet information for Scout, Standerwick, Bamber Bridge Motor Services, Preston Corporation, Ribble and Crosville. For Preston and Crosville there were also bus tickets in the respective files. All the fleet details had been hand written and, in respect of the Ribble group vehicles, information stating which this person had driven or worked on. This led us to believe that he may have been an employee of the Company. However, there was no name of the person that had built this collection anywhere throughout the folders. The photographs and tickets had been glued onto lined paper, which leads us to believe that they are all bought and not taken by this person. None show any details of who took the photos or when they were taken. I have scanned all the photos and now have them on disc. I will put a few on my site so that you can view them and, perhaps, shed some light on this mysterious person. By doing this, I hope that I am not breaking any copyright rules because, as mentioned earlier, the photos have no names of the photographers placed on them (front or back). They will be put on my site as The ………. File (with the corresponding operator filling the gap). There are 9 Bamber Bridge, 36 Crosville, 53 Preston, 40 Scout, 22 Standerwick and about 130 Ribble (I have not yet finished editing them yet) photos. Your comments would be welcome!! At Caernarfon is Clynog & Trefor 774NJO. This is an AEC Reliance with Marshall B53F bodywork that was new to City of Oxford in 1962 Silver Star 606JPU is a Bristol SC4LK with Eastern Coach Works B35F body. This was new in 1957 and came from Cumberland in 1971 Whiteways DCC125 is a Bedford SBG with Duple C38F body and was new in 1955 Whiteways DED797 came from Warrington in 1963 Whiteways DED797 is a Leyland Titan PD1 with Alexander H30/26R body and was new to Warrington Borough Transport in 1946

Not the best of photographs, but i have spotted this in a farm off Gill Lane, little Hoole near Preston. I am pretty sure that it is an ex Crosville vehicle and enquiries around Preston suggest it may be SSG662 [911OFM]. I have not had the chance to investigate further and this photo was taken from a bus cab as I was passing. Does anyone know if this is the likely identity of this vehicle. At Pleasureland Coach Park in Southport is Crosville EMG581 [HFM581D], a 1966 Bristol MW6G with ECW DP41F body I think this may be Crosville SMG450 [1229FM] outside Oswestry Railway Station. It is a 1963 Bristol MW6G with ECW B45F body Outside Aberystwyth Railway Station is Crosville DFB177 [EFM628C], a Bristol Lodekka FS6B with ECW H33/27RD body, new in 1964 With thanks to Nigel, this scene was taken at Wrexham Bus Station sometime between 1972 & 1976. The clues are the express-liveried MW6 (2nd left), which were all out of service by about '77 ; and the bus on the far right, one of the surprise batch of Seddon Pennines which Crosville bought in about '72. These were notoriously unreliable, and they were all withdrawn by about '77 as well. This photo was taken at Barmouth (the bus station, such as it was, was right next to the Cambrian Coast railway line, hence the signal in the background), and shows one of the later Leyland Nationals about to start the return part of the D94 route back to Wrexham. The later Nationals were far more comfortable and quieter than the first batch. I wouldn't have liked to make a 3-hour cross-country trip to Wrexham in one of those! (thanks Nigel) Taken at Aberystwyth, where the bus depot was right next to Aberystwyth Town FC's ground in Park Avenue (the old stand can be seen behind the National on the left). On the left is DVG557 (SMS36H), a Bristol VRTSL/6LX with ECW H39/31F body. This latter vehicle was acquired from Eastern National (3010) in 1982. Both are seen at Amlwch 26.10.83 DOG123 (MTU123Y) at Chester 28.10.83. An ONLXB/1R Olympian with ECW H45/32F body ENL845 (NFM845M) is a Leyland National 1151/1R/0405 with DP48F body photographed on 28.10.83 (don't know location ??) During their time with Crosville this batch of vehicles carried a variety of liveries from including Town Lynx, National Express, SuperBus and Service 94 to name but a few. Several enthusiasts have told me that they found it virtually impossible to get round Wrexham depot - I was NEVER refused ENG867 (PFM867M), a 1151/1R/0405 version of the Leyland National at Wrexham Bus Station on 11.11.83 Also behind the depot at Wrexham is ELL499 (ODM499V), a Leyland Leopard PSU3E/4R with Duple Dominant II Express C49F body. Photo date is 11.11.83 The back of Wrexham depot was often used as a graveyard for Crosville vehicles. SLL637 (OCA637P) is seen there on 11.11.83. It is a Bristol LH6L with ECW B43F body HDG912 (TCD382J) at Wrexham depot 11.11.83. The photo is taken at Runcorn Beechwood depot on 30.11.83 Yet another former Southdown (507) vehicle bought in 1981 is DVG544 (TCD507J), a Bristol VRTSL/6LX with ECW H39/31F body. I got up very early and travelled by car through Wrexham, Corwen and Machynlleth to arrive in Aberystwyth in time to catch the Cardiff service. Here are a few photos that I took on that day. I returned via mid Wales calling at Llanidloes, Newtown and Oswestry. By the time I got home I was absolutely worn out (I am being polite there), but it was well worth it as it had been a day that I had been trying to do for several years. Moving to Aberaeron, we see SNG355 (CFM355S) another standard NBC Leyland National to B49F layout Bristol VRTSL3/6LXB / ECW H43/31F at Aberaeron parking area. The vehicle is DVG533 (DCA533X) Short National SNL588 (JTU588T) is seen on my return to Aberystwyth Also at Aberystwyth bus stops is DVG568 (HAL105K). This vehicle came from East Midland in 1984 and is a Bristol VRTSL/6LX with ECW H39/31F body At Aberystwyth depot is DVG271 (HTU160N) SNG391 again, this time in Cardigan Also at Cardigan is SNG 357 (CFM357S) Back at the Bus Station are South Wales Leyland National 797 (TWN797S), a B52F example. Alongside is Badgerline 2206 (A206SAE) a Tiger TRCTL11/3R with Plaxton Paramount 3200 Express C53F body Still at the Bus Station we see Crosville SNG391 (GMB391T) as well as Davies (of Pencader ??) ex Lancaster Leopard MFR302P Another view of SNG391 A South Wales Bedford YMQ / Duple Dominant DP45F. It is seen in Carmarthen. 280 (FCY280W) Also in Carmarthen is CTL37 (A37SMA) in Town Lynx livery. This is the vehicle I travelled from Aberystwyth aboard Alongside CTL37 is South Wales National Express Rapide liveried 129 (MKH87A). This is a Leyland Tiger TRCTL11/3RH / Duple Caribbean II C46Ft At Carmarthen is 37426 SRG180 (EFM180H) is a Bristol RELL6G / ECW B53F. It is seen at Llanidloes on my drive home Three views at Newcastle Emlyn depot. The first is of ERG279 (YFM279L) a Bristol RELL6G / ECW DP49F This vehicle is ERG274 (YFM274L) Here we see ERG284 (YFM284L) At Newtown, in National Express livery, is ELL29 (DDM29X). Of interest is the photo of the same vehicle in December 1997 in the special livery for the Wrexham - Barmouth service. I would arise early in the morning and drive by car to a suitable point and then travel by Crosville services to various locations using my NBC Staff Pass. On 19 May 1984 are two Crosville VRT on lie over at Congleton Cattle Market. DVG490 & 491 (WTU490 & 491W) SRL255 (SJA390K) is seen in Congleton town centre on 19 May 1984. This is a Bristol RELL6L / ECW B49F combination At Crewe on 19 May 1984 are Leyland National SNL817 (WFM817L) and SRG204 (HFM204J). The National is an 1151/2R with B44D example. This photo dates from 5 August 1984 At the now closed Heswall depot on 17 August 1984 are a pair of ECW bodied Leyland Olympians in the shape of DOG124 (MTU124Y) and DOG165 (A165VDM) Still at Heswall is ELL28, a Willowbrook bodied Leopard in Town Lynx livery At Heswall on 17 August 1984 are Leyland National ENL855 (NFM855M) and ELL507 (OMA507V). The former is a DP48F example whilst the latter is a Leopard with Duple Dominant II Express C49F body Also at Liverpool's Pier Head is Leyland National / DP48F ENL849 (NFM849M) Bus seated National SNL415 (LMA415T) at Pier Head on 17.08.84 Underpants on buses !!. Advertising Y fronts is Bristol VRT DVL394 (FTU394T) at Liverpool Pier Head on 17 August 1984 At Liverpool Pier Head on 17 August 1984 is Festival Bus liveried HDG910 (TCD380J). This vehicle was bought from Southdown and is a Daimler Fleetline CRG6LX with Northern Counties H40/31F bodywork. This vehicle was formerly with Ribble until 1983. Alongside is National SNL594 (JTU594T), a B44F example MDP705 (NMA705Y) is a Dodge S50 with Reeve Burgess B17F body at Northwich on 25 September 1984 Next is ELL510 (OMA510V) in Town Lynx livery. This is Leopard PSU3E/4R with Duple Dominant II Express C49F body CYL429 (429UFM) is a Leyland Royal Tiger with Roe Doyen C46Ft body. Finally DVG546 (UUF113J) a former Southdown vehicle in 1981. It is a Bristol VRTSL2-6LX with ECW H39/31F body Four photos taken in Sealand Road Works, Chester on 25 September 1984. Bought from Ribble in 1983 it is a Bristol RELH6L with ECW C47F body SNL361 (EMB361S) is a standard B49F Leyland National Moving further afield, on 13 October I was in the Aberystwyth area where we see CLL317 (RMA317P) in National Express livery. It is a Leopard PSU3C/4R with Plaxton Supreme Express C49F body Alongside, at Barmouth, was SNL589 (JTU589T) a National 10351B/1R with B44F body Calling at Barmouth on my way south I caught ENL919 (HFM175N) on lie over On its way out of Dolgellau is National SNL599 (JTU599T) High and dry is Willowbrook bodied Leopard ELL30 (DDM30X) at the rear of Bangor Depot Not a Crosville vehicle, but an operator in their area is Clynog & Trefor ARN588C. This was a former Ribble Leopard with Weymann B53F body. Date 19.10.84 Former Southdown HDL917 (KUF387K) at Pwhelli on 19 October 1984. A Daimler Fleetline CRL6 with ECW H43/31F body I was very lucky to get a photo of this vehicle, though the quality is not too good. On 20 October 1984 at Llanfaircaerenion is MRB702 (STU702V), a Bedford with Reeve Burgess B17F bodywork At Llanidloes 0n 20.10.84 are National ENL842 (NFM842M), a DP48F National and HVG936(OWE280K). The second vehicle is a Bristol VRTSL-6LX with East Lancs H43/31F bodywork bought from South Yorkshire PTE in 1980 At Newtown Bus Station is DVL401 (JMB401T) a standard NBC Bristol VR. No doubt some people would be interested in the vehicle in the background, but I have no idea who's or what it is. SRG75 (XFM75G) is seen parked alongside Corwen Depot on 20.10.84. This is a Bristol RESL6G / ECW B46F On the same day, in the same town is ERG273 (YFM273L) At Oswestry is SNL998 (LMO224L) another of the Leyland Nationals bought from Alder Valley Also at Oswestry is HVG935 (OWE277M), originally with South Yorkshire PTE The first of two Bristol RELL6G / ECW DP50F vehicles. This is ERG283 (YFM283L) in Oswestry 20.10.84 Off to Wrexham now on my way home. Unlike a few people I know, I was never refused entry into Wrexham Depot (NBC staff passes are useful you know!!). Here is DVG542 (SCD504H) a former Southdown Bristol VRTSL-6LX / ECW H39/31F Nearby at Wrexham was Dual Purpose National ENL923 (HFM179N) ELL319 (TFM319R) on Chester Bus Station on 15 December 1984. It is a Leyland Leopard PSU3D/4R with Duple Dominant I Express C49F body in Town Lynx livery Showing the size of the Crosville premises at Northwich we have SNL390 (GMB390T) on the Bus Station On the same day I moved on to Northwich where we see SNG380 (GMB380T) a B49F Leyland National At Wrexham Depot is SRG101 (XFM101G) a Bristol RESL6G / ECW B46F 23 March 1985 found me in Wrexham again with this view of DOG184 (B184BLG) and SNL577 (JTU577T). The DOG is an Olympian ONLXB/1R / ECW H45/32F whilst the SNL is of the 10351B/1R B44F variety The third National at Aberystwyth is SNL661 (GMB661T) SNL344 (CFM344S) in Aberystwyth 15 April 1985 Again at Aberystwyth is SNL410 (LMA410T) Way down south again at Aberystwyth on 15 April 1985. Here is DVG573 (NCK983K) a former Ribble Bristol VRTSL2-6LX. It is quite possible that I may have driven this vehicle when it was with Ribble. When they were moved out of Carlisle, some were sent to both Preston and Lancaster and therefore were used at Garstang outstation where I worked
